review of christina’s back to basic concert
So I finally saw Christina Aguilera in person! Yay!
She had a great concert in Manila. She sang around 20 songs. And the vocals dude was superb! She was able to sustain it until the end. Every song was with high notes. Imagine Fort Open Field, it was huge but it was almost full. So I was thinking she had around 20,000 audience or more ???
The production was very good. She had around 10 (?) costume changes. She had a live band and back-up dancers. I must say it was an overall expensive production. She first came out dressed in an all white outfit from cap and boa to shoes and even her mic (haha). It was funny cuz she kind of had a delayed entrance, the mic was turned off for a longer period for her Ain’t No Other Man. It was the only technical problem anyway, the rest of the show went smoothly.
I must say I got bored with the first set cuz the only songs I knew from her Back To Basics album are Ain’t No Other Man, CandyMan, Hurt, and Slow Down Baby (you can look all you want but you just can’t touch, I sang that part a lot, that’s lovely, haha). So the rest that she sang bored me. I swear I thought the concert wasn’t worth it. I just pleasured myself by observing on her back-ups. She had Fantasia Barrino (look alike only) in her 3 vocal back-ups. Haha, I swear they really looked alike - the same hair, and mouth, and I mean no offense here. She also had a beautiful male dancer - the one who’s playing with fire (literally), he’s hottt, looks like Kevin Federline (ahaha!). I think the audience shared the same feelings cuz the crowd went quiet for a while. It became lively only during the Slow Down Baby cuz the crowd began singing with her again.
Set 2 came, with songs from her Dirrty album. Man this was the best part of the concert. I felt like The Fort took ecstasy and everyone just got excited and loud. When Lady Marmalade was played everyone just jumped up on their feet and danced and sang along, then came some more famous songs like Beautiful, Dirrty, Fighter, Come On Over, What A Girl Wants, and Fighter (you made me stronger, thanks for making me a fighter) which was the finale of the show.
It’s kind of bitin cuz it ended just like that - when everyone was most excited and singing along with Fighter. I want more! But her showmanship was great. I never thought she can dance, but yeah, Britney is a better dancer, but she danced very well despite being very pregnant (the boobs were prominent, must be lactating).
I observed she had a hard time adjusting to Manila weather (it was Open Field, mother, mother). She kind of sweated a lot and it was obvious she had difficulty with breathing. I even thought shes gonna collapse or something. Manila weather was effin hottt. She was caught a couple of times munching on energy bar. It was flashed on the screens and the crowd was laughing. Even her energy bars were white (white choco?).
She thanked the fans with that - Mahal namin kayo and mahal ko kayo. Next thing I knew she bowed then the back-ups bowed and it was over. So wanted more!
Highlight of the show was when she sang Beautiful. Everyone sang along with her and waved their hands in the air just like how she was waving. It was a beautiful moment! And of course the Lady Marmalade part - the happiest part. She must be surprised Filipinos know her songs ??? cuz other Asians can’t sing along with American songs - like in Japan and Indonesia (yeah, yeah, they speak no English, ahahaha).
Well, I was not really a huge fan of her. But now, I think I already am. I’m also hoping to watch Justin Timberlake (my love) and Britney Spears (I don’t care if she lip synchs, I just wanna see her) to compare these Mickey Mouse Club alumni. Haha (: It was good but it can’t still beat PCD Manila in my top list (:
